Lactation Consultation Packages:
1. An initial 90 minute lactation consultation at your earliest convenience. It can happen at your home, Donna's office, or virtually (telehealth.) Most initial appointments can be scheduled to take place within 1-3 days.
2. Follow-up consultations as selected.
Some home visits require an additional travel fee that will be charged at each appointment.
How do you know if you need a Lactation Consultation Package?
If you meet any of these criteria, you would be helped by a Lactation Consultation Package:
- You have a 6, 12, or 24 month breastfeeding goal.
- You never breastfed before.
- You are pregnant.
- You didn't meet your goals during previous breastfeeding experiences.
- You are having difficulty breastfeeding or pumping right now.
- You are not producing the amount of milk your baby needs.
Or...
- You know yourself. You like every question answered.
- You are constantly wondering if something, you or your baby does, is normal
-
You are going back to work before 6 months postpartum.
- Your sleep, diet and fitness are important to you.
- You have a history of anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or abuse
- You do better with regular scheduled support. You have a therapist, hair dresser, house cleaner, nanny, personal trainer, and/or life coach.
It's OK if you think your problems are not big enough or, you aren't sure you need help. Many moms feel this way. You will receive education, reassurance and guidance, so you can always be sure of your next steps.
It's OK if you think your current situation is a hopeless cause and that you are beyond help. I have seen hundreds of so-called hopeless cases turn completely around, and have happy endings when the mother received accurate, timely breastfeeding information, emotional support, and preventative guidance.
To succeed at breastfeeding, here's what you need:
- Determination and the desire to breastfeed;
- Patience to keep trying when things don't go as you expected;
- Support and guidance from an expert;
- Community and peers who breastfeed;
- Tissues -- long challenges can be very emotional!
If you need more information about your particular situation you can text or call me at (845) 750-4402.
During your initial lactation consultation, you can expect most of these:
- Get all the details about the difficulties you are experiencing
- Take a health and breastfeeding history
- Answer your questions
- Observe you and your baby breastfeeding
- Screen for nipple, breast, mouth or tongue problems
- Learn about feeding cues and how milk production works
- Coach you and your baby through latch, positioning and other comfort measures
- Teach pumping, hand expression techniques and milk storage guidelines
- Refer you to someone who can better help you with your problem, if need be
- Create a breastfeeding plan that will accommodate your lifestyle, your goals and your baby
Followup appointments vary depending on your particular needs. During these consultations we can work anything. These are common concerns:
- Breastfeeding as part of your daily routine and lifestyle
- Sleepy or slow weight gain
- Ongoing sore breasts and/or nipples
- Hands-on breast techniques for safety and health
- Weaning off triple feeding
- Pumping
- Flange Fitting
- Milk production changes through the first year
- Milk storage
- Getting more sleep
- Nursing as your baby changes
- Baby carrier fitting and nursing
- Returning to work
- Plugged ducts/mastitis
- First foods
- Breastfeeding friends and community
- Nursing after one
- Weaning
Here are my Policies:
1. I will do my best to get breastfeeding right for you and your baby.
2. This is a come-as-you-are appointment. You just had a baby. You can wear PJs. You can have a messy house. You can cry. In the not too distant future, you will feel better, you will wear real clothes and your life will be more organized.
3. I will bring respect, love and caring into every interaction.
4. I fully expect that we will laugh and we will cry, of course, and sometimes together.
.5. You and I don't like being force fed and neither does your baby. I don't do "Grab and Ram” with mothers and babies.
6. It takes a village. There is no one lonelier than a new mom. I will get you connected with other breastfeeding moms, if that’s what you want.
7 I want you and your baby to enjoy breastfeeding together. I want you to meet your goals, however they look.
Here are my standards:
We make sure your baby is fed. My first choice of food is your breast milk, either at your breast, expressed, or from your stash. My next choice would be donor milk from a milk bank or another donor. If that isn't possible, we will use formula.
I try really hard so you can be nursing pain free, or almost pain free in 1 visit.*
You, your baby, your breastfeeding goals, opinions, culture, lifestyle, and family will be respected when we work together.
I have an evidence-based practice. What we do has been studied and shown to work and you don't get stuck with some folklore, bizarro habit.
You are the expert in your baby, (even if you don't feel like it, yet.) You set the pace and decide if you like something or don't.
Keep the baby calm. It is essential to be gentle with babies and ease into breastfeeding rather than making lots of changes and upsetting your baby.
I follow current American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines and track baby’s weight, stools and wet diapers, so you are confident your baby is getting enough milk.
Your situation, problem, solution, and story are private, except where I, like other health care providers, have legal responsibilities mandated by law.
Cancellation Policy:
If you change your mind at any time, you can request a refund. Appointments that have been used will be charged at the current individual appointment rate and you will be refunded the balance of your original purchase.
For example:
You purchase the 12 appointment package for $1680.
After two appointments, you decide to wean off breastfeeding. Your two completed appointments will be assigned a value of the individual appointment rate of $175 each, totaling $350. You will receive a refund of $1330.
When you purchase the package you will receive a text or call to set an appointment, from Donna (me) (845) 750-4402.
